Capital City Volunteers is a non-profit society and charity registered on November 3rd 1988. Our mission is to help seniors and other people with disabilities stay independent in their own homes with the help of direct volunteer outreach services. Services are provided to residents in the municipality of Victoria.

Our funding comes from a variety of sources. Capital City Volunteers has received a grant from the Capital Health Region since 1992, which covers approximately one-third of our yearly expenses. The rest of the our funding is in the form of one time grants, donations from businesses and private individuals and fundraisers such as our silent auctions.

Who benefits from the services we offer?

People with disabilities such as the elderly, are often alone and without assistance to help them get to medical appointments, go grocery shopping, or have someone come and fix a leaky tap.

The people who ask for our help have a disability like osteoporosis, or severe arthritis and cannot do some things for themselves. They are on low incomes with limited resources and are often reluctant to ask for help and only do so because they have no other alternative.

We all may find ourselves in similar positions at some point in our life. It is important to our community that we can help each other. Capital City Volunteers provides the means for people to register their needs and a place for people to volunteer. We interview both clients and volunteers and also provide an orientation and ongoing training and support.

"Remember, we all stumble, every one of us.  That's why it's a comfort to go hand in hand."
