Visitor Companions: (#100714) Each month we have new opportunities for volunteers to engage with an isolated senior or person with disabilities. Visits are usually in the home of the client and often there are things that the person would like to do. Sometimes there are a few minor household tasks. This is wonderful way to make a real difference in someone’s life and bring joy to their day. Declutterer: (#091001) Senior Women living in a seniors residence needs help sorting out all her paperwork on her table. She is not sure what to throw away and what to keep. She needs someone to help her organize her bills, etc, so that she can continue with an easy system. Also needs help in sorting out her closet so that she is able to get to her clothes easily as she has some physical restrictions. Has a bit of trouble planning and organizing things. Visitor and Walker: (#091005) Charming elderly man who lives near Beacon Hill Park would like a visitor and walker to go out on good days with him downtown or Dallas Rd. He lives in a senior residence and does not get a lot of company but is good with conversation himself. He is very cognoscente and very pleasant to be with. Drivers: (#090301) Do you like to drive, meet new people? Have you got a couple of hours per week to spare? We have many seniors who would like your assistance to get to medical appointments and sometimes go shopping for food or personal items. You pick the time and date you are available. This is a great volunteer job as you can do it when you have time on an on-call basis. You get to meet lots of interesting people and help them get around the community. Facilitator: (#090304) To co-lead a small weekly seniors group in the Victoria area. The job entails booking guest speakers and keeping in contact with client members of the group in between meeting times. This requires a one year commitment, usually 3-4 hours a week. There is training and an honorarium. Volunteers must be available during the afternoons weekdays from 12:30 to 3:30 pm (days vary with each group). Shopper: (#090305) Older women in Fairfield (near Dallas Rd) needs a grocery shopper who will go to the store for her on a weekly to buy chicken and a few other things. She is very particular about she wants and her illness restricts her ability to do things for herself. Gardeners: (#090309) As the weather gets warmer and gardens start to wake up from their winter hibernation, we will be needing more volunteers to garden for our seniors and people with disabilities. We usually get requests from all sorts of people with gardens large and small, complex or just a bit of maintenance. If you like the outdoors and getting your hands in the soil, this is the job for you. |
